Chemistry Leaderboard

One number per squad: Team Chemistry Density (TCD). It counts the pairs whose tracking-derived joint impact clears the tournament median — offensively, defensively, and across the off-ball / on-ball seam — then sums them. Below: every team ranked, every per-team network drawable on click.

Top 4 by TCD = WC22 semifinalists. France 1, Brazil 2, Croatia 3, Morocco 4. ρ(TCD, WC22 finish) = +0.704 · ρ(TCD, History Index) = +0.348 · n = 31.

Column glossary

TCD — Team Chemistry Density
Strong off pairs (above the tournament-pool median AW-JOI/90) + strong def pairs (above the pool-median AW-JDI/90) + cross-team net (positive-net cross pairs minus negative-net cross pairs).
TCD-off
Number of off-off pairs whose AW-JOI/90 clears the pool median.
TCD-def
Number of def-def pairs whose AW-JDI/90 clears the pool median.
TCD-cross
Net contribution from cross-line (off ↔ def) pairs: (# positive-net pairs) − (# negative-net pairs), where net = AW-JOI/90 − AW-JDI/90.
AW-JOI — attention-weighted Joint Offensive Impact / 90
Frame-by-frame, attention coupling × the change in P(score) − P(concede). Summed across the tournament, normalised per 90 minutes shared. The continuous, value-weighted version of JOI.
AW-JDI — attention-weighted Joint Defensive Impact / 90
Same construction, credited on negative-value frames (chances against, collapses). Per 90 minutes shared.
FIFA-23 Overall
Squad-mean FIFA 23 Overall rating — the talent baseline.
WC22 finish
Tournament stage reached (Winner, Final, 3rd, 4th, QF, R16, Group).
History Index
Count of squad players with at least one club-mate inside the same national-team squad — a proxy for pre-existing chemistry from club football. Click through for the full breakdown.
Top pair
The single strongest AW-JOI pair on that squad — the headline partnership the tracking model identified.
